Homeschool Mother's Journal April 3, 2011

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week... I've been trying to figure out balance in my life.   How do I meet everyone's acedemic, social, spritiual needs and find time to do the same for me!   Oh and I'd like to find some time to have a clean house while I'm at it.

I have a neighbor in my life who I help out by gardening.   I was able to get in her yard and weed and get a little garden going.   It felt really good and this upcoming week I hope to get in my garden and get started by weeding and putting together some new garden beds.

In our homeschool this week...Again, balance, balance, balance.  Also, I need to get to bed earlier so I can get up earlier so I can get started earlier so we can get more done!

Places we're going and people we're seeing...I've been trying to get our family together for a trip away--anywhere---but with everyone's crazy schedule its been hard.   So, we are committeed to heading out of town this coming weekend.   The kids are going to decide on where and what we're doing.

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...
I had another child with a birthday.   E turned 13 this week.   I now have three teenagers in my life.   I never thought I would live through the teenage years.   And some times with teens are hard, but for the most part I like being a mom to teens.   Teens are able to physically take care of themselves (no more wiping bottoms and buckling seatbelts), and they start to reason and think for themselves.    My teens share their lives and friends with me, and my life is all the better for it.    Of course, next year I'll have five teenagers----I may feel a bit differently then!  ;)
In our homeschool this week...
We mostly worked on MacBeth.    E is playing MacBeth and we have spent a ton of time on his part.   Who knew how much time actors spent developing their characters?

Places we're going and people we're seeing...
To the Rubicon Theatre!

We are also excited about Grammy and Aunt Thea who will be joining us for the performance on Saturday.

My favorite thing this week was...

My husband coming home.    I missed him a lot.   It is so hard to run a household with one partner gone.   As soon as he got back, he shared with us all of the yummy food he had eaten while in Germany.   It brought back so many memories of all the foods I grew up eating.   It also inspired me to make pork and cabbage for super last night.

What's working/not working for us...
I-E just joined a water polo team this week.  I am hoping it works out for her.   The novice team she's been competing on always has problems getting enough people to form a team in her age group, so she competes with the older kids.   This team is all girls her age.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

We really need to get more accomplished  each week, so we can finish the school year in a timely manner!

Happy Birthday!  Yummy chocolate cake with raspberry filling and whipped cream frosting and chocolate sides.    What's your favorite kind of cake?

Homeschool Mother's Journal 2/27

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...

My oldest daughter turned 15 years-old.   My little girl is not so little anymore.   We had a wonderful time with many of her awesome friends.

In our homeschool this week.
My youngest daughter that does really care to read lost herself in a book.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...
I drove my older children and some friends to Santa Barabra for a youth conference.   While they listened to some awesome speakers,  I visited the Santa Barabra mission with my two youngest.   It was a joy to spend some alone time with just them.   That doesn't happen very often.

My favorite thing this week was...
Spending a quiet Sunday afternoon working my kids to help them set some goals.

What's working/not working for us...
Having hubby away so much for work.   Really not working for me.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...
After eleven years of homeschooling, I am a few years away from "retiring" from teaching.   I just feel like I'm really getting good at this.    Thinking about not having anyone to teach makes me a bit sad.   It's time to think about the next stage of my life.
